2nd Quarterly Safety Initiative Winner Announced

Congratulations to Wavell Robinson Farms of Pavo, Georgia for being named the Second Quarter Winner of the AgriTrust of Georgia Quarterly Safety Initiative. For over 55 years, Wavell Robinson and his family have been producing some of the highest quality crops in the state. Like many traditional row crop farms in the area, Wavell Robinson grows cotton, peanuts, and soybeans, but their main production comes from watermelons and tobacco. Knowing how labor-intensive hand harvesting watermelons and tobacco can be, the Robinsons strive to ensure that every employee takes safety seriously.

Mr. Wavell Robinson and his wife, Darlene Robinson, have implemented a hydration policy during the summer months that has played a key role in protecting their employees during the extreme heat. Also, regular safety meetings are held to keep the workers aware of the other dangers such as insects and animals, pesticides, and proper food handling. AgriTrust of Georgia has presented Wavell Robinson Farms with a check for $2,000.00. They plan to use their winnings to expand their safety equipment inventory. Since their typical work locations can have a long response time from EMT services, they are investing in a defibrillator to have on site in case of emergencies. Hoping to never use it, but understanding that it could save someone’s life is just another way Wavell Robinson Farms is placing their employees’ safety first.

AgriTrust of Georgia is a group self-insured workers’ compensation fund that provides workers’ compensation insurance coverage for the agricultural industry in the state of Georgia.
