2013 Cotton Gin Safety Initiative Winner
AgriTrust of Georgia has announced The Southern Gin Co., Inc. of Pelham as the winner of the 2013 Cotton Gin Safety Initiative. The Cotton Gin Safety Initiative is a program conducted by AgriTrust, a self-insured workers’ compensation fund that services agribusinesses in the state of Georgia, to encourage safety training by its cotton gin members. Winners receive a $2,000 prize if they have had no lost time claims during the ginning season.
The Southern Gin Co., Inc. was founded March 18, 2003 by a group of local producers headed by Bruce Godwin and Freddie Miller. Owned by 24 local producers, The Southern Gin Co., Inc. holds the distinction of being the only gin in Georgia that is a “New Generation Co-Op” under Federal Law. They have nine full time employees and 30 additional seasonal employees. The Southern Gin Co., Inc. stresses to all employees to think “safety first” and never compromise safety concerns to increase production.
